External CTO: a technical director for your company, without a new hire

We maintain your entire system and take on the CTO role: we make strategic technical decisions, manage vendors and defend your interests at every technical meeting.

One person accountable for technology

A single partner who knows your entire system and is accountable for it, instead of multiple vendors passing responsibility around.

Your voice at meetings

At meetings with vendors, partners and investors we act as your company's CTO and defend your interests.

Decisions before spending

We review offers, licenses and architecture before you pay, not after.

For a fraction of an employee's cost

The experience of a senior technical director without the cost of a full-time hire.

Most companies have software, servers, a website, licenses and several external vendors, but nobody who sees the whole picture and who can say at a meeting "this is too expensive" or "this solution won't survive growth". That is the job of a technical director. The standard package includes maintenance of your entire system: infrastructure, applications, website, security and backup. On top of that, our senior engineer works as your external CTO: creates a technology plan, makes strategic decisions together with management, attends technical meetings as your company's CTO and represents only your interests. We explain everything to management in plain language, without jargon, and you get the experience of a technical director for a fraction of the cost of an employee.

Frequently asked questions

What is an external CTO?

An experienced technical director who works for your company part-time, under contract. They have the same role as an in-house CTO: accountable for technology, decisions and vendors, but without the cost of a full-time hire.

How is this different from ordinary maintenance?

Maintenance keeps systems running. An external CTO decides where systems are going: what to buy, what to build, whom to hire and how much it may cost. With us you get both in one package.

Do you really attend meetings as part of our company?

Yes. With your authorization, at meetings with vendors, partners, clients or investors we act as your company's CTO and represent only your interests.

Who is this service for?

Companies that depend on technology but have no technical director, companies working with multiple external vendors, and startups before their first technical hire.

How much does an external CTO cost?

The price depends on the size of the system and the scope of the CTO role per month. After an introductory call and technical review you receive a fixed monthly quote.

Do you sign an NDA?

Yes, before a detailed conversation. Information about your company does not leave our meetings.

Do you have to do the development too?

No. If another vendor suits you better, as your CTO we will manage and oversee them just as strictly as if they were our own team.

We're a startup and can't afford a CTO. What then?

Take a look at our Technical Co-founder program: for selected startups we build the product free of charge in exchange for equity.

Need a technical director, not another vendor?

Tell us about your company and the systems you use. We'll get back to you within one business day with a time for an introductory call.

A few sentences are enough: what you do today, what slows you down and what you want to achieve.

By sending this inquiry you agree that we may contact you about it. We never share your data with third parties.
